Terms of Service
Last updated: July 2026
Acceptance of terms
By using Lumen, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. We may update these Terms from time to time; continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
The service
Lumen is a Bible reading app. The Free tier includes reading, bookmarks, and ads. Lumen Plus is a paid subscription that adds the AI Guide, sermon notes, personalized reading plans, every translation, and an ad-free experience.
Accounts
Some features require an account. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in secure and for all activity under your account. You must provide an accurate email address, since we use it for account recovery and receipts.
Subscriptions and payments
Lumen Plus is billed monthly or annually, plus an optional trial period at a reduced fee. Which payment methods are available depends on where you subscribe. On iOS, subscriptions are processed by Apple's In-App Purchase and are managed in your Apple ID account settings. On Android, subscriptions are processed by Google Play Billing, with mobile money via KeyPay (Orange Money / MTN MoMo) also available for customers in Cameroon. On our website, mobile money via KeyPay is available for customers in Cameroon. Mobile money doesn't support automatic recurring billing — you'll need to pay again manually before your subscription period ends to keep Plus access, and we'll show you when it's due. Every other method renews automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from Profile → Manage subscription, or from your platform's account settings (Apple ID or Google Play); canceling stops future renewals but doesn't refund the current period. Once you're subscribed, Plus works on every device you sign into with the same Lumen account, no matter where you originally purchased. All amounts are as displayed at checkout in your local currency.
Acceptable use
Don't use Lumen to harass others, share unlawful content, attempt to disrupt or reverse-engineer the service, or use the AI Guide to generate content that impersonates a real person or organization in a misleading way. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
The AI Guide is not pastoral, medical, legal, or financial advice
The AI Guide gives answers grounded in Scripture as a spiritual companion — it is not a substitute for a pastor, counselor, doctor, lawyer, or financial advisor. For serious personal, medical, legal, financial, or safety matters, please seek help from a qualified person; the Guide will suggest doing so when appropriate, and Lumen accepts no liability for decisions made based on the Guide's responses.
Your content
Sermon recordings you upload, reading plans you create, and cards you generate remain yours. By sharing a reading plan publicly through the marketplace, you allow other users to view and use it within the app. Don't upload content you don't have the rights to.
Intellectual property
The Lumen app, its design, and its branding are owned by [company name] or its licensors. Bible translations included in the app are used under their respective licenses (public domain or licensed). You may not copy or redistribute the app itself.
Third-party services
Lumen relies on third-party providers to operate: Clerk (authentication), Anthropic (AI Guide), Google AdMob (ads for Free-tier users), and Neon/Vercel (database and hosting). Payment processing depends on where you subscribe — Apple's App Store on iOS, Google Play on Android (with KeyPay available in Cameroon as an alternative), and KeyPay on our website. We aren't responsible for outages or issues originating from these providers, though we'll do our best to work around them.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Lumen is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, [company name] is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.
Termination
You can stop using Lumen and delete your account at any time from Profile. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction], without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
